"The Way of the White Tulip" is a multidimensional artwork in the form of a durational pilgrimage retracing, in reverse, the route of Hernando De Soto's 1539-1542 expedition. That expedition brought systemic violence, enslavement, and disease to Indigenous nations, and left deep wounds in the land, the people, the animals... to all sentient beings. This project addresses those wounds, offering gestures of forgiveness, healing, and the hopes for new beginnings at key historical sites along the route.
The gestures are not a simple act, but a multidimensional performance working across the physical and the invisible, through vibration emanated by my own intentional presence, movements, and actions; and the vibrations that the petals, the quartz, and the symbols carry within and share; all addressed to the unseen planes where I feel the real transformation takes place.
Every stop is different. Each gesture to be performed depends on the place, its history, and what it is asking for. The white tulip, the rose quartz, and the un-sewing and sewing of the route are always present... vibrating, transmuting, instilling love.
"The Way of the White Tulip" essence is synchronistic. It has its own flow and requests... I try my best to stay tuned, aware, and flexible enough to connect with it and follow through.
